At Nallikari you can walk out onto the frozen sea itself, across the ice of the Gulf of Bothnia in scenery you won’t find anywhere else. No skills or training needed: strap on the snowshoes and go. Where can you snowshoe in Oulu?

Nallikari’s speciality is the frozen sea: in winter you can walk out onto the sea ice in wide-open coastal scenery, something Lapland’s forests and fells can’t offer. For a calmer outing, the nearby Hietasaari recreation trails are ideal. On the darker afternoons you might even catch the northern lights (March is one of the best months here). Our staff and guides will advise a safe route based on the weather and ice conditions.

You can rent snowshoes from Nallikari Safaris rental shop at Nallikarinranta 10, Oulu during opening hours. Snowshoes can’t be booked in advance – you get them on the spot.

Do I need previous experience?
No. Snowshoeing is easy to start with no special skills – if you can walk, you can snowshoe. On a guided safari the guide gets you going.

What should I wear?
Warm layers for the weather: a warm jacket or overall, warm footwear, a hat and gloves. We provide the snowshoes.

Where do I get the snowshoes, and do I need to book?
Snowshoes are rented from Nallikari Holiday Village reception on the spot – they can’t be pre-booked. Guided safaris are booked online.

The winter season runs roughly from November to April, depending on snow.
