2.10.2024

Nallikari Snow Fest returns to Nallikari’s winter, in February 2025. This event will gather snow sculptors and locals from around the world for the fourth time, offering a unique opportunity to see masterpieces made of snow by the sea. The event is part of Oulu’s preparations for the 2026 European Capital of Culture and aims for international growth. The open call for the snow sculptors is open. Apply now.

Nallikari Snow Fest is an international snow sculpting event held in the heart of Nallikari. Snow sculpting teams from around the world will be selected through an open application process based on sculpture designs. The snow sculpting event culminates in Nallikari from February 11-15, 2025, when the selected sculptors will create amazing works of art out of snow in Nallikari’s wintry landscapes.

“It’s great that we can organize Nallikari Snow Fest again in February 2025 in Nallikari, with new services in place. The event has been popular among both locals and snow sculptors from around the world, attracting nearly 10,000 visitors,” says Kalle Komulainen. “We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of snow sculptures we’ll witness next year and the stories they tell. The theme of the year will be cool contrasts” Komulainen continues.

As in previous years, the event venue will be located in the heart of Nallikari, centered around Nallikari Winter Village. Four days have been set aside for snow art, with the goal of creating an impressive sculpture park in Nallikari, contributed by both professional snow sculptors and the public. The event culminates in the opening of the sculpture park, and the snow sculptures will remain on display for all to see until the snow melts.

Event aims to grow for Oulu 2026 European Capital of Culture Year

Nallikari Snow Fest is actively aiming to contribute to Oulu European Capital of Culture year in 2026. The event organizers are working with the Oulu2026 project to enhance the cultural significance of the event and increase its visibility as part of the larger European Capital of Culture initiative. In this way, the event strengthens Oulu’s position as an international event city and brings the city’s diverse cultural offerings to the attention of a broader audience.

“Now that Oulu European Capital of Culture year is approaching, we hope to gain even more visibility for the event,” says Komulainen. Nallikari Snow Fest is a unique and internationally appealing event that puts northern snow sculpting on the world map and serves as a major attraction for both local residents and tourists from around the globe. Nallikari’s new service offerings and improved infrastructure provide the means for the event’s growth in the future,” Komulainen continues.
