City Biking is a Relaxing Activity in an Urban Environment – Especially on Oulu’s Excellent Bike Paths
City bikes are, as the name suggests, designed for urban cycling. They’re perfect for short trips, sightseeing, or quick errands around the city.
Main Cycling Routes in Oulu
Oulu is known as a year-round cycling city, with an impressive network of bike paths totaling around 930 kilometers. These bike routes span the city from south to north and west to east. By 2030, Oulu plans to build 75 kilometers of premium bike lanes paved with red asphalt. One of these, the “Nallibaan” connecting Nallikari to the city center, is scheduled for completion in fall 2024. The main bike routes in Oulu are numbered and marked along the way, providing a fantastic opportunity for visitors to explore the city by bike.
In addition to the main cycling network, the city’s bike route map features three recommended nature routes for different skill levels. These scenic trails lead riders through coastal Oulu, along the Oulujoki River, and to the popular lake areas in the northern parts of the city. You can download the map here.
